One method to promote your website over the internet is sending messages which contain links over the group on the internet. Yahoo groups and Google groups (using Gmail) are well known and have been extremely used over the last few years.

A few days ago I have delivered a project (the web page was online, everything was ok) and one of the first client's questions was why she could not find the web page with google and why the page was not in the first page of the search results. If you don't use Google to search the website (the full URL!) in order to access it you probably know that a lot of people does that.

This month, in the beginning, some changes appeared in the way the search engines process the data indexed by their crawlers: Schema.org was officially introduced to the public. Three major search engines united to help improve the search results and to make search listings richer through structured data.

As Google announced here, on their official blog, on the introduction of Schema.org:

The most important part you should consider when you start to design a site is its target. When I say "consider" I am thinking about 2 important things: the template and the functionality of the site (that's the web designing and web developing part of the web page) and the content adding (after the development is ready and the site is online).

Of course, there is no chance to be taken in consideration if you want a business page and it looks like a child's play (or something very different of what it should suppose to look like), but that can be arranged and it should not be a problem with a good team to do your site.

Black Hat SEO is simply the call name for some techniques that are used to get higher search engine ranking is an unethical manner (ways that are forbidden by the main search engines). They usually break the current rules and regulations (some of them where permitted some time ago but they became obsolete/forbidden because of the abuse), create poor user experience for the visitors of the site, unethically presents content in different ways (one way for the human visitors and one way for the search engines spiders).

One of the themes that is not often discussed is the link between the comments from articles and posts and the search engine optimization.

When writing the content of a page (as articles or posts) the number of keywords, their position in the article and their frequency is very relevant for the SEO and the way the search engine spiders will treat the content after they index the page. If you get a great article (from the SEO point of view) it's ok. Job done, you can pick another subject and continue what you are doing.

Recently I've installed Community Builder 1.4 on Joomla 1.6 and I've got some error when trying to use it.

It was obviously an incomplete install,  and the reason was that file the "pluginsfiles.tgz" was not uncompressed and installes. It was located here:

/home/_domain.com/public_html/joomla/administrator/components/com_comprofiler/pluginsfiles.tgz

First I've uploaded the file "ue_config_first.php" renamed as "ue_config.php" in the folder

/home/_domain.com/public_html/joomla/administrator/components/com_comprofiler/

Then I unzipped the file "pluginsfiles.tgz" and uploaded the content (all the folders into the archive) into the folders /home/_domain.com/public_html/joomla/administrator/components/com_comprofiler/plugin and /home/_domain.com/public_html/joomla/components/com_comprofiler/plugin

and it worked fine.

Telling the search engines that your site exits on the web is one the most important things to do after a site is done, online and filled with some content. The old and well known ways to do that are to submit the link to Google, Yahoo and Bing... they still works but the time to index the domain can be longer than a lot of you may like: it can vary between a few days and a few weeks.

Google's Webmasters Tools and Microsoft's  Bing™ Webmaster are very helpful, they were created to provide you with detailed reports about your pages' visibility on the search engines (the site's seo). Using that tools you can submit xml-based sitemaps to Google and Bing, files that provide all the links of the sites. You must follow some guidelines for that, but the explanations are extensive. The same thing that can be done using a sitemap on the page, their purpose is to help crawlers to parse the site. Using robots.txt you an also exclude parts of your site from the crawlers' acces if you don't want to make them public.

One of the fastest way to "invite" crawlers to get to your site is to write articles on high rank site (like http://www.goarticles.com/ or http://ezinearticles.com/ ) and provide backlinks to your web page. You can do it yourself or you can get some content writers to do that for you. The articles does not necessary have to be too long, it's enought about 300 word per article. When writing such articles you must follow the same rules you use for the content of you site: to be descriptive, to use some specific targeted guide line, to use specific kewyords inside the text.

The tools to create backlinks follow the same rules, but they are involved in the quantity of the links not in the quality of the content attached to that link. The quantity and the quality are both important because they will always bring you visitors, but they must follow a clear direction in the promotion of the site. Lately Google changed the search algorithms, now they rank higher the pages with the unique content. One good way to improve the rank of your site is to creat a blog of some kind and to start writing. There are a lot of systems that offer you good and various advantages to your site, but that's another story. For now I can tell you that fhe Wordpress blogs, for examples, have the option to make themselves public and submit the link of the blog via the wordpress domain. This can always help if you don't stop creating content (don't stop writing), and the visitors (humans and crawlers) that can get to the blog will reach to the main page.
